Network Test Methodology

How our network measurements work

The homepage shows two measurements from different viewpoints. This page explains what each one measures, when it is updated, and why they cannot be added together.

Two measurements, two viewpoints

  1. Connection time from probes in China to ZebraLink.
Globalping resources in China initiate a TCP measurement. The homepage lets visitors observe Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing or Chengdu. This figure describes the probe network at the time of measurement, not a complete request from a user's device.
  2. Response time from ZebraLink to a target AI service.
ZebraLink's measurement environment visits the current list of targets such as Claude, OpenAI and Gemini and records the latest successful response time. Service availability is currently checked every six hours.

Why the figures cannot be added

They are not consecutive timings from one request: the source locations differ, and the measurements may be taken at different times. Adding them would create a plausible-looking figure that was never measured end to end, so the homepage keeps them separate and shows measurement time.

How to interpret results

  • “Available” means the latest measurement succeeded, not that future availability is guaranteed.
  • “No data” means there is no valid result to display; another figure should not be substituted.
  • Lower response time usually indicates better conditions at the time of measurement, but it does not replace testing your own workflow.
  • ZebraLink cannot change the official status or account restrictions of a third-party AI service.

Known limitations

Actual experience also depends on carrier, Wi-Fi, device load, city, time of day, the target service and account rules. Globalping probes are not identical to every home or office network. The data is useful for recent trends and service status, not as an absolute performance promise.
